School students join HETA for National Apprenticeship week

1st April 2016

As part of National Apprenticeship week HETA hosted several events at all three centres which included guided workshop tours and taster days.

Throughout the 5 days, the Scunthorpe instructors put on some electrical workshops for schools including Huntcliff Academy and students from The Skills Centre Plus, which included students from The St Lawrence Academy.

The students enjoyed taking part in electrical engineering tasks, learning how to wire a light switch, finding out about engineering pathways and also had a chat with some of our apprentices to find out what it was like to be a HETA apprentice.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for organising an excellent visit yesterday. The students that attend here at Skills Centre PLUS were delighted with the visit. They gained a great deal of information about apprenticeships and career opportunities.

Prior to the visit, 4 students expressed an interest in a career in engineering. When questioned at the end 10 of the 12 students said they wanted to know more. That has to be put down to the excellent experience that Lucy, Grant and the two apprentices gave our students.

At the centres in Hull and Grimsby, schools including Ormiston Maritime Academy, Withernsea High School and Malet Lambert School came in for a guided workshop tour. The students got to see HETA apprentices operating in the workshop and also got to chat to instructors to find out about what they would be studying if they was an HETA apprentice.

We had a great week and we would like to thank all schools that came in to visit us during the week- we look forward to inviting you again next year!!!
