What are Higher Nationals?
Our Level 4 & Level 5 Higher National Programme provides students with a clear line of sight to progress to further higher education study.
Higher National qualifications are equivalent to the first two years of an honors degree. They are also recognised by industry, so they have been designed to be taken as stand alone qualifications before entering the real world of work, or to give you a practical grounding before completing a degree at university.

Higher National Certificate
Entry Requirements:
As a minimum, applicants should hold or be working towards a Level 3 technical certificate. Applications from ‘mature’ engineering technicians with suitable equivalent qualifications are welcomed and previous engineering experience may be considered as evidence of suitability for the course.
Candidates looking to apply must complete the online application and will need the following information:
- A valid email address you check regularly.
- (Where applicable) your employers' contact details.
- Your GCSE maths and science grades.
- Details of other relevant qualifications you hold.
- Contact details of a referee to support your application
Our Programmes:
We offer 4 different progression routes:
- Level 4 HNC in Electrical and Electronics or Mechanical Engineering
- Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard: Engineering Manufacturing Technician
- Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard: Lead Engineering Maintenance Technician
Course costs:
With payment plans available, the total cost of investing in the HNC programme is £2,950 per year +VAT or Employers can choose to fund the learning through either Level 4 Apprenticeship programmes.
Higher National Diploma
Entry Requirements:
Candidates looking to apply for the HND programme must currently hold a Level 4 HNC or be working towards.
Candidates looking to apply must complete the online application and will need the following information:
- A valid email address you check regularly.
- (Where applicable) your employers' contact details.
- Your GCSE maths and science grades.
- Details of other relevant qualifications you hold.
- Contact details of a referee to support your application
Our Programmes:
We offer 2 different progression routes:
- Level 5 HND in Mechanical Engineering
- Level 5 HND in Electrical Engineering
Course costs:
With payment plans available, the total cost of investing in the HND programme is £5900+VAT.
