How do I apply for a HETA apprenticeship?

We're looking for the most promising talent in the region. Our 6-step selection process identifies those with the attainment, attitude and passion needed to become a HETA apprentice.


How does the 6-step selection process work?

Step 1: Apply Online

The first step of our selection process is completing an online application form.

To apply for a HETA apprenticeship, you need to meet the following entry criteria:

  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in English
  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in Maths
  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in any Science

As part of your application, you will need input your predicted GCSE grades. If you have already obtained your GCSE results, simply input your actual results as part of the application.

You will also be asked to complete a personal statement as part of your application, this is your chance to let us get to know you! Consider why it is that you're passionate about kickstarting your career in engineering, your ambitions for the future and why you think you are a suitable candidate for a HETA apprenticeship.

 


Step 2: Engineering Assessment

After submitting an online application form, you will complete an engineering assessment to evaluate your core Maths and English skills as well as engineering reasoning and problem solving.

You will receive a link from our recruitment team no more than 2 working days after submitting our online application form.

Discover more about life at HETA by visiting one of our state-of-the-art training centres, located in Hull, Grimsby and Scunthorpe respectively.

Step 4: IAG Session

After experiencing our incredible facilities first-hand, you will invited to participate in an 'Information, Advice and Guidance' session.

This session will help you to prepare for the final stages of our recruitment process, where you will begin to interact with our fantastic employers.

We will assist you with preparing for an interview, as well as providing you with more in-depth information regarding our apprenticeship programmes.

You will be contacted by our recruitment team to book your place at an IAG session.

Step 5: Conditional Offer

Being successful at the interview stage means that you will receive a conditional offer subject to meeting the following criteria:

  • GCSE Grade 5 or above in English, Maths, Science & one other subject
  • Securing an apprenticeship with a relevant employer

Disclaimer: Please be aware, limited places may become available on our unsponsored traineeship programme later on in the recruitment process. Our Recruitment Team will provide you with further information should this become available.


Step 6: Securing an Employer

To support you with finding an employer, you will be granted access to our vacancies platform where you will be able to view all available opportunities for the forthcoming year.

This is your chance to engage with our incredible employers and find out more about the apprenticeships available to you.

We also have a number of Employer Open Days taking place throughout the course of the year, these events are an opportunity for you to meet face-to-face with employers and discuss the available vacancies.

We encourage you to engage with as many employers as possible, broaden your horizons and learn more about the progression pathways available as part of your apprenticeship and beyond!
