Humberside Engineering Training Association - HETA

The leading engineering training provider in the Yorkshire and Humber region

HETA Unites with Education Leaders to Power Humber's Future

HETA Unites with Education Leaders to Power Humber's Future

HETA (Humberside Engineering Training Association) is proud to announce dynamic new partnerships with Wilberforce Sixth Form College, John Leggott College, and the University of Hull in a major step forward for engineering education, opportunity, and regional growth.

These powerful collaborations unite further and higher education with industry-leading training, creating clear, inspiring routes into engineering careers for young people across the Humber region. Together, we’re breaking down barriers, opening doors, and delivering on a shared responsibility: to ensure that students from all backgrounds and abilities have a pathway to a successful, high-value future.

“This isn’t just a partnership; it’s a united front for the future of our region,” said Iain Elliott, Chief Executive of HETA. “The Humber needs a skilled, adaptable workforce to meet the demands of modern industry – and we’re answering that call by working hand in hand with exceptional educational institutions. By collaborating with Wilberforce, John Leggott, and the University of Hull, we’re making sure young people can see, reach, and achieve rewarding careers in engineering. This is how we build the workforce of tomorrow.”

By linking sixth form study and higher education with HETA’s industry-focused training and employer connections, students can now access tailored pathways that lead directly into apprenticeships, degree-level qualifications, and long-term careers in engineering and manufacturing.

These partnerships are rooted in collaboration, inclusion, and ambition. They will empower students to explore the exciting world of engineering through joint initiatives, cross-campus activities, and clear progression routes – whether they are leaving school at 16, pursuing A-levels, or entering higher education. The collaboration also extends to shared CPD opportunities for staff across all partners, ensuring teaching, training, and careers guidance remain aligned with the evolving needs of industry.

The Humber is a region with energy, innovation, and industrial strength – but to unlock its full potential, we need people. We need young people with skills, confidence, and ambition. And that means building bridges between education and industry like never before.

We’re kicking off this exciting partnership with a series of cross-institution open evenings designed to inspire and engage the next generation of engineers.
