British Values
Learn about how the fundamental British Values are promoted at HETA.

All HETA staff exemplify British values in their management, teaching and through general behaviours including through opportunities in the further education curriculum.
HETA require all learners to abide by British Values and respect other people with particular regard to the protected characteristics set out in the Equality Act 2010.
The protected characteristics are:
- Age
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Disability
- Race
- Religion or belief
- Sex
- Sexual orientation
British Values at HETA
How can learners embody the fundamental British Values?
Democracy
- By influencing the way that HETA runs through the learner council engaging with members of staff and the Board of Trustees.
- By influencing learning through their opinions.
The Rule of Law
- By understanding that rules are used to mirror society laws and must be respected.
- By recognising that there will be consequences for their actions and respecting those in positions of authority.
Individual Liberty
- By being free to think and have their own opinions, but not dismissing the beliefs and opinions of others.
- By recognising that they have the freedom to make choices, understanding how those choices affect them and taking accountability for their own actions.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance
- By recognising that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not actively promoting extremism or offending others.
- By understanding that everyone is entitled to a voice.
- By listening to others as they wish to be listened to.
Learners can also demonstrate responsibility by taking ownership of their learning with the support of their tutors, understanding that we have a collective responsibility to promote and protect the well being of others and finally, being accountable for all of their actions - good and bad.
