Who is suitable for a HNC in Mechanical Engineering?

A HNC in mechanical engineering is an excellent choice for those who are looking to progress their careers, this could be solely by expanding their technical knowledge or for those looking to progress into senior roles, where an ability to manage projects and improve processes would be necessary.

This qualification allows those who are already in engineering or technical roles to showcase their ability to employers by receiving formal qualifications that certify the skills and knowledge they will gain. Not only that but the flexible learning schedule that a HNC allows for makes it a great option for those balancing study with a full-time role in the engineering or manufacturing industry.

By completing projects specific to your workplace, the HNC will also allow you to directly apply the knowledge you gain to both current and future roles, improving your ability and confidence.

Perhaps most importantly, a HNC can be used as a stepping stone for those who aspire to acheive higher qualifications, such as a HND (Higher National Diploma) at Level 5, or a full degree in mechanical engineering.

Mechanical Engineering HNC Units:

The Higher National Certificate (HNC) is a Level 4 qualification made up of 120 credits. It is studied part-time over two years (40 weeks per year). The units that make up the Mechanical Engineering HNC are as follows:

  • Engineering Design
  • Engineering Maths
  • Managing a Professional Project
